Ships will drop anchor in Sremska Mitrovica on the Worldwide Pier

Passenger ships will now drop anchor at the International Pier in Sremska Mitrovica. With its rich history and souvenirs, new tourists are readily waiting in ancient Sirmium.

“We based ourselves on having our city beach as a new tourist product. And we all know that Mitrovica is a city above a city, and a city below a city with Sirmium, and every tourist who comes has a lot to see,” says Dušan Drča, director of TO Sremska Mitrovica.

“We will present Sremska Mitrovica through the period of the Roman, Ottoman and Austrian empires, but we will not miss the period of this modern, contemporary Sremska Mitrovica as a natural beauty that connects Srem and Mačva,” says Svetlana Milovanović, mayor of Sremska Mitrovica.

In Srem, they expect that the inclusion of Sremska Mitrovica on the nautical map of Europe will contribute to the development of other branches of the economy as well. It is the 8th passenger pier in Serbia, and two decades ago, we had only one.

“We have two international rivers, the Danube and the Sava, and one interstate Tisza. Due to our favorable location and dense network of waterways, we have the opportunity to develop our nautical potential on almost a thousand kilometers of waterways and 650 kilometers of canals,” says Vuk Perović, director of the Agency for Management ports.

“We are finishing Zemun, we will work on Ram, we will work on Sremske Karlovci, Apatin, we expect that by the end of the year we will have 12 with Zemun and maybe 13 international piers. Belgrade and other parts of our beautiful country,” said Goran Vesić, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.

The pier cost about 400,000 euros. The plan is to introduce a river line to Belgrade and Šabac, which should receive a similar facility before the end of the year.
