Over 45,000 Americans have applied to a “contest” in hopes of winning a chance to shoot bison in the Grand Canyon, Arizona.

The U.S. National Park Service has said only 12 places are vacant for winners who will help kill the animals.

The decision to kill them comes after reports that the bison population had become too large and that they had violated archaeological sources and prevent damage to the environment.

Despite the fact that this job requires climbing to an altitude of 2438 meters and other difficulties, people are very enthusiastic to participate, writes A2.

By 2025, the National Park Service says it will reduce the size of the bison herd to at least under 200 in order to protect the park’s resources from population impacts.
