Austria last month registered more hybrid and electric cars than petrol or diesel vehicles, for the first time, according to figures released Thursday.

According to foreign media, the Telegraph reports, the total share of electric and hybrid cars was 42.2 percent in August, ahead of gasoline cars, which reached 35.1 percent, and diesel cars, 22.7 percent, said the general director. of Statistics Austria, Tobias Thomas.

Figures show that vehicles with alternative energy sources have doubled their share of new registrations in just one year.

Overall, car ownership also showed a downward trend, with the number of cars registered in August 15 percent less than the figure of last August.
