The supervised online courses on “Freedom of Expression” and “Protection and Security of Journalists” for judges and public prosecutors in Serbia started on 23.

The courses were themed under the joint action of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Freedom of expression and the media in Southeastern Europe (JUFREX)” and in collaboration with the Council of Europe’s Human Rights Education Program (HELP).

The courses are carried out in cooperation with the JUFREX action partner – the Justice Academy of the Republic of Serbia – and are used as an instrument to supplement the traditional materials of legal training. The courses are also implemented beyond the duration of the campaign, which also ensures their long-term sustainability.

The second training course for Serbian judges and prosecutors on the protection and safety of journalists was organized from June 21-22, 2021 in cooperation with the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia. The aim was to present relevant European standards and to help improve the protection of journalists and media actors. The two-day training was based on the trainer manual developed as part of the joint action of the European Union and the Council of Europe “Freedom of Expression and Media in Serbia” (JUFREX 2), adapted to the local context of Serbia and presented by judges, prosecutors – JUFREX national certified trainer for freedom of expression.
