“Democracy needs active and well-informed citizens who participate and engage.”

This is what Prime Minister Albin Kurti said at the virtual meeting of the board of the Progressive Alliance.

He stressed the need for a good education and a free media that seeks the truth, exposes corruption and scandals, and holds elected representatives accountable.

Prime Minister Kurti emphasized the two most urgent issues for the citizens, to which the Governing Program responds: work and justice.

“Citizens want a democratic state that respects and protects human rights and civil rights, that functions based on the rule of law, freedom of the media and freedom of speech.

“They want an independent and professional justice system that truly delivers justice and a government that works for all, regardless of background or income,” he said.

The Progressive Alliance is an international political alliance of social democratic and progressive political parties and organizations.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti received today the director of the National Democratic Institute (NDI), Soderberg.

Soderberg congratulated Prime Minister Kurti on taking office and said he was ready to deepen cooperation, as he will now physically work in Kosovo.

The importance of the development and further deepening of democracy, in addition to being a continuous work and effort of the National Democratic Institute, it is already on the agenda of our government’s priorities, said Prime Minister Kurti. Democracy develops when policies are progressive and it deepens when even more women, youth and marginalized groups participate in it, he added.

The topic of the meeting was also the approaching local elections. The elections of February 14 this year were an example with their regular progress, said Prime Minister Kurti. From these elections, he continued, municipal leaderships should emerge, which serve the citizens responsibly and improve their daily lives.
