Together with Prime Minister Kurti today we traveled to Tirana and participated in the meeting organized by the German Chancellor, Mrs. Angela Merkel, with the leaders of the Western Balkan countries.

Initially, in the framework of a joint working lunch, the challenges and the future of the region were discussed, focusing on the processes related to the integration of the Western Balkan countries into the European Union.

Then we held a special meeting with Chancellor Merkel where we first talked in detail about the new political reality in Kosovo and the long and fruitful partnership and cooperation between the two countries.

During the discussion on regional developments in the Western Balkans, it was emphasized that the Berlin Process is the common platform in the process of integration of the Western Balkan countries into the EU. Prime Minister Kurti also stressed the EU presence in regional initiatives as necessary for the region.

We also talked with Ms. Merkel about the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, emphasizing the need for Serbia to face its past and making it clear that Kosovo “does not return before 2008” when it comes to Serbia’s position and future. relations between the two states.

The PDK leadership has also discussed the process of preparations for local elections.

The members of the Presidency were informed that the Central Election Commission has certified 29 PDK candidates for mayors and 875 candidates for 33 Municipal Assemblies, being again the party with the largest number of candidacies for leadership of municipalities.

17 out of 29 PDK candidates for mayors are running for the first time, while 22 out of 29 candidates have never been in municipal leadership.

Also, in these elections, PDK is the party that has the most women candidates for mayors and candidates for Municipal Assemblies.

In total, PDK has 4 candidates for mayors and 324 women candidates for Municipal Assemblies.

Four secretaries have been appointed at this meeting of the Presidency. Betim Gjoshi will be the Secretary for Organization and Elections, Bernard Nikaj will be the Secretary for International Relations, Adri Nurellari will be the Secretary for Program Policy and Bekim Çollaku will be the Secretary for Euro-Atlantic Integration.
