Rashit Qalaj, former director of the Kosovo Police has reacted after the talks in Brussels between Kosovo and Serbia under the leadership of the European Union envoy for dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, it was decided that the northern part will continue to be controlled by KFOR.

He said on the ATV show “CONTEXT” that he does not agree with KFOR forces taking on the role of monitoring the roads in the north of the country, adding that it is not necessary for Kosovo to go back several years.

“It’s strange how it is published before an agreement is reached, if that is the case. I think that informing the public on the points that have been discussed before the agreement is reached, I think that it is not good, at least it hurts the Kosovar side who are in dialogue. On the other hand, I welcome any agreement, but I am against KFOR forces taking over the role of monitoring the roads there from the Kosovo Police. I think that if there is no need for the Special Units to stay on the roads leading to the border crossings in Brnjak and Jarinje, then the ordinary police, traffic police and border police and other ordinary units should gradually patrol those roads, initially reinforced with the Special Unit and gradually the Special Unit officers withdraw. There is nothing wrong if a KFOR patrol stays there, but the Kosovo Police should be responsible all the time because it is also responsible according to the law and the constitution and there is no need to go back a few years to clear our roads. “Patrol and monitor KFOR,” he said.

Qalaj further added that it is the duty of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Government of Kosovo to coordinate with the international political spectrum for such police operations as the one in the north of the country.

“For police operations, the police do not need to coordinate with the international political spectrum, but this is the task of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Government. “As for the cooperation with the Security Institutions in this case, EULEX and KFOR in the past there has been cooperation, but there has never been a request from the Kosovo Police to engage EULEX and KFOR”, said Qalaj.

Tensions in the English Channel, a British ship patrols around the island of Jersey

The British government announced that it was sending two ships of the Royal Navy to monitor the situation, and early this morning, the patrol ship “Severn” arrived near Jersey.

The Ministry of Defense announced that the ship “Tamar” will arrive in the waters around Jersey later.

France has threatened to cut off electricity to the island, which does not fall within the territory of Great Britain, but is considered a “royal possession”, ie “a territory for which the United Kingdom is responsible”.

This development came after Jersey decided last week to issue fishing licenses to French vessels under the new system, ie they had the right to fish even before Brexit, reports the BBC.

French fishermen, who claim that their rights have been unfairly restricted, have announced a protest blockade of the port of Saint Helier by boats.

Last night, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson expressed “strong support” for Jersey, the largest island in the English Channel, which is located 22 kilometers from the coast of France.

He assessed that any blockade would be “completely unjustified”.

Johnson previously spoke with Jersey Prime Minister John Le Fondre and Foreign Secretary Ian Gorst, after which he stressed the “urgent need to de-escalate tensions.”

According to the new rules introduced by Jersey on the basis of the trade agreement between Great Britain and the European Union, the owners of French boats must prove that they have fished in the waters around the island before.

French authorities claim that “new technical measures” for fishing around the English Channel islands have not been discussed with the EU, and assess that they are legally “null and void”.
