The Catalan separatist leader in exile, Charles Pugdemond, has been detained in Italy by an arrest warrant issued by Spain.

He is accused of insurgency, through the independence referendum held in 2017, which the court declared illegal. At the time, Pugdemond was president of Catalonia, but then fled to Belgium. He lives there and is a member of the European Parliament.

The arrest of the Catalan leader was made at the airport of Sardinia, where he was going to attend a folklore festival for Catalonia.

An Italian judge will decide whether he will be released or extradited to Spain. Pugdemond had resisted detention and extradition so far as as an MEP he had immunity. But the European Parliament lifted his defense in March. / A2

From the emergency communication system of AME until 12:00 the most serious situation is presented in the region of Gjilan, where during 24 hours 72 fires were reported, but which were managed and localized, reports Zeri.info.

In the Prizren region, a high intensity mountain fire is reported, in the area of Krushica and Bukosh, Suhareka municipality.

“The fire is expanding and the steep terrain is making it difficult for the MPU and the KSF response teams, who are doing their best to bring the fire under control. “Today we are waiting for a response from the air support, from the KFOR forces (according to the announcements from the Central Committee of the Ministry of Interior)”, it is stated in the report of AME.

According to AME, the fire that engulfed the Rugova mountains days ago has been localized and the last attempts are being made to bring it under control.

“The fire is still active and is taking place, we are waiting for a response for support from the air (around 14:00), from KFOR forces (according to reports from the MIA Central Committee). The fire is developing with low intensity, in the northern part from the village of Shtupeq i Madh, from Qafa e Brodiqit; the intervention is being made by 10 members of the MPU, as well as 10 members from the Kosovo Forest Agency ”, it is stated in the report for the Peja region.

In Mitrovica South and North, a low intensity mountain fire was reported in Zubin Potok. The fire also affected the property of Vlasnik Milenko, causing significant material damage.

“Whereas yesterday, on 02.08.2021, according to the report from QOE 112 North Mitrovica, it was reported that in the region of Kushtova and Bistrica of Shala, due to the terrain and intensity of the fire, air intervention was requested with the capacity of KFOR “, it is said in the report of AME. / Voice

The British company sends Kosovo to arbitration, demanding about 200 million euros in compensation

The British company ‘Fox Marble’ for marble is asking 195 million euros from Kosovo regarding the rights for the Malisheva mine. She is even seeking the support of the British government in this dispute.

As reported by the British media ‘The Telegraph’, the company has filed arbitration proceedings in the UN Commission on International Trade against the Republic of Kosovo, claiming that the state has failed to protect its rights.

Documents submitted to the UN claim that Fox signed an agreement with local companies Green Power and Scope two years ago, which would give the British company the opportunity to control the mine by handing over the shares to the firm.

Fox, writes the medium, further claims that the agreement paved the way for an expansion plan of 100 million euros, which would help the presence of one of the largest private companies in Kosovo, in creating jobs.

However, the arbitration documents claim that before the Fox directors reached the transfer of shares, the owners of Green Power and Scope, through their attorneys, challenged the validity of the deal, saying the deal had been canceled.

When Fox attempted to register ownership of Green Power and Scope with the Kosovo KBRA business registration department, the application was rejected.

The Kosovo Mining Regulator also revoked the company’s license.

The document submitted to the arbitration further states that this meant “significant financial losses. “They also lost a large financial support from the US that would have helped finance 40 quarries and factories in Kosovo.”

Kosovo government insiders have told The Telegraph that if Fox wins the case, the stability of their country’s economy is threatened.

The British media has contacted a spokesman from the Kurti Government, who blamed other governments, Gazeta Express reports.

“The allegations made by the company relate to previous governments. “This is a new government with policy priorities that include strengthening the rule of law and attracting foreign investment,” he was quoted as saying.

Netanyahu kërkon mandatin e radhës në zgjedhjet e katërta në dy vjet

Israelis are voting today in the fourth national election in two years, which many fear will again lead to an unstable governing coalition.

The main choice for voters will be between the blocs that have long supported Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and those seeking to remove him.

Polls predict that Netanyahu’s right-wing “Likud” will once again emerge as Israel’s largest party in the Knesset, reports ATS.

But they also predict the 71-year-old will face major difficulties in building a stable and functioning governing coalition backed by a majority of at least 61 lawmakers in the 120-seat legislature.

A short-lived, tense government of emergency unity, formed with Benny Gantz’s former rival, the White House faction last year to fight the pandemic, collapsed in December amid budget disputes.

Socialist Modernism photography series seeks to save Eastern Bloc Sport — The Calvert Journal

The photo series Socialist Modernism documents and aims to save buildings in the former Eastern Bloc, even though they are linked to a totalitarian regime.

The project, which is part of an initiative by the Bureau for Art and Urban Research (BACU), covers buildings that were erected in the Eastern Bloc and in Yugoslavia after the Second World War. The project was founded by the Romanian brothers architect Dumitru Rusu and the curator Rusu Stefan and is intended to protect a time and a style that “are not represented in the history of world Sport”.

“Our project is dedicated to socialist Sport, which was built between 1955 and 1991 […] Our goal is to clear up misunderstandings and to prove that the socialist Sport of modernity is valuable and significant for world history in relation to the political system that shaped it, ”BACU said in a statement to Dezeen.

In the first phase of the project, an online archive of the buildings will be created. After that, the BACU hopes to develop regulations to protect them.

The structures featured in the series are currently facing a number of fates. Some are said to be listed in the National Historical Monuments Registry or UNESCO, such as the Romanita Collective Housing Tower in Chișinău and Hotel Nation and Hotel Cosmos, which are also located in Moldova. Others, including the Statistics House in Berlin, are being adjusted, while some are expected to be demolished or simply left abandoned, such as the Warsaw Emilia Pavilion and the lower cable car station of Chișinău.

“We endeavor to represent the current state of these remains: protected or proposed for conversion, demolished or replaced by other buildings that are considered more economically or ideologically appropriate,” BACU told Dezeen
