When certain medical problems occur, most people recognize them by pain or unpleasant symptoms, such as tightness of the chest, shortness of breath, or changes in the body.

However, there is another symptom that appears in a much more benign way and which can be a sign of a serious condition that affects many people. Namely, if you feel a sudden taste in your mouth, you may have diabetes, medical experts claim.

Your sense of taste may change as your body does not regulate blood sugar levels, which is a possible sign of diabetes. This is usually accompanied by a sweet taste in the mouth.

Your pancreas, which is located inside your stomach, plays a major role in digestion and produces a hormone called glucagon. It works with the hormone insulin to regulate sugar levels in your body. Insulin prevents high blood sugar and glucagon prevents it from falling too low.

Dr. Philip Janglas from the Cleveland Clinic in the US warns that people who have problems with diabetes can feel a sweet taste in their mouth as well as a sweet smell of fruit in their breath.

However, if you regularly feel an inexplicable sweet taste in your mouth, this requires detailed examinations.

Although metabolic causes such as diabetes are possible, Healthline also warns that similar symptoms can occur due to sinus infections, viruses, neurological problems (stroke, epilepsy, etc.), stomach acid problems or even pregnancy. .

The safest way to determine the cause is blood tests to check hormone and blood sugar levels, followed by diagnosis and treatment, reports Best Life.

Taste of Serbia Food & Music Festival, Aug. 31

Eat, drink and dance all day!

Festival “Taste of Serbia”, Labor Day weekend

One of the largest ethics festivals in Lake County Illinois!

The Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Basil of Ostrog in Lake Forest-Mettawa is holding the annual “Taste of Serbia” festival on Saturday, August 31st and Sunday, as well as on September 1st. The aim of the church is to familiarize the community with Serbian food and Serbian culture. Traditional cuisine, music and drinks are offered. Few know that Serbs settled in Lake County over 100 years ago and are one of the oldest ethnic settlers.

Back by popular demand are popular starters such as slow-roasted organic pork and lamb, which are made over an open grill pit. This tried and tested traditional roasting method ensures a crispy outside and juicy, tender meat inside. In the grill area you will find “Chevapchice” – grilled minced beef and pork sausages, pork and shashlik kabob skewers and pleskavica – a spicy Serbian-style beef and pork patty with peppers and onions. Try the combination platter “Hungry Serb” All three delicious grill specialties.

You will think your ‘baba’ (grandmother) made the traditional stuffed cabbage rolls, ‘palachinka’ (crepes) and a variety of ‘pitas’ (cheese, meat, apple or cherry strudel). Pastries such as krem pita (pure whipped cream and vanilla pudding), baklava and tarts will delight your palate. End it all with a frozen Serbian chocolate coffee. Both American and Serbian beers and wines are available in the beer garden, as well as, of course, “Slivovitz”, their famous Serbian plum brandy. We are proud to serve the award-winning “Opolo” wine from Serbian winemaker Rick Quinn.

Last year they served over 1000 people over 1000 stuffed cabbage rolls, 1000 pounds of meat and 1500 bottles of Serbian beer!

Music and ‘Kolo’ dance are played by “Prazna Flasa Tambura” and “Sumadija” without a break. Visit the church and learn about Orthodox traditions and Serbian culture from Pastor Father Djuro Krosnjar.

There’s fun for all ages including a kiddie area with giant inflatables and games. Visit the bookstore for music, books, jewelry or symbols. Also take a look at the specialist providers.

The opening times are Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 11 pm. Entry and parking are free! The church is located at 27450 North Bradley (Old School Street) in Lake Forest-Mettawa. For more information, please visit www.tasteofserbia.org or call 847-247-0077.

The Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Sava will host a food festival on October 2nd and 3rd with a “little taste of Serbia”, said a spokeswoman.

All groceries can only be offered to take away on both days from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The choices are similar to those at St. Sava’s during McKeesport International Village.

Choices include a lamb sandwich on a hard roll; Sarma (Serbian-style stuffed cabbage); grah i kupas (traditional soup made from sauerkraut and red kidney beans); Halushki (sauteed sliced cabbage and onions mixed with egg noodles); and Spanish rice (white rice, slowly cooked with tomatoes, onions, peppers and spices.

The church also offers a 12-ounce hand-breaded fish sandwich on October 2. Other specialties on this day are prawns and French fries.

On October 3rd, the church offers a hot sausage sandwich with onions and green peppers in a tomato sauce.

Desserts include apple strudel, palacinke (thin crepes filled with a mixture of cheese and baked), and libanica (cheese strudel with layers of filo pastry and a mixture of cheese), and frozen nut and apricot rolls.

Orders are placed in the social hall and no phone orders are accepted, the spokeswoman said. Social distancing rules will apply and no one will be allowed in without a face mask, she said.
