The attack was filmed by police when they arrived at Pelosi’s home on October 28, 2022, when he was attacked, CNN reports.
The video shows the moment when attacker David De Pape (42) attacks Nancy Pelosi’s husband with a hammer and how Paul Pelosi and De Pape hold hands on the hammer.
In addition to the police camera footage, the court released files that include audio from police conversations with De Pape, reports CNN.
The California court’s decision to order public release of the material followed a request by a coalition of news organizations, including CNN.
De Pape’s lawyers objected to the public release of the footage, saying it would “irreparably damage” his right to a fair trial.
De Pape pleaded not guilty to any of the charges, including assault and attempted murder.
It was recently reported that De Pape revealed to the police a list of people who were his targets in addition to Nancy Pelosi, so he planned to attack Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joseph Biden, California Governor Gavin Newsom and actor Tom Hanks, according to the officer who spoke with him in the hospital shortly after the attack.
An earlier court filing said De Pape named several prominent politicians, their relatives and a local professor as other targets, but did not identify any of them.
