Latest visa news, wife Jelena, Instagram post, deportation, Australia vs Serbia

Jelena Djokovic has taken to Instagram to support her husband, nine-time Australian Open champion Novak, who is being detained in a Melbourne hotel as he fights to reinstate his visa.

Djokovic was detained on arrival at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport on Wednesday having failed to “provide appropriate evidence” of double vaccination or a medical exemption to enter the country where he was hoping to defend his Australian Open title.

His ongoing legal case has gathered international interest, but his wife Jelena had not publicly commented on the situation until Friday morning, when she released an Instagram post celebrating Serbian Christmas.

“It’s Christmas today for us, my wishes are for everyone to be healthy, happy, safe and together with families,” she wrote.

“We wish we are all together today, but my consolation is that at least we are healthy. And we will grow from this experience.

“Thank you dear people, all around the world for using your voice to send love to my husband.
