Haiti police on Friday dropped new charges against a former Constitutional Court judge over her links to the assassination of President Jovenel Moise this month, saying she had met with several Colombian mercenaries who are accused of killing the head of state.

The assassination of the president has plunged Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world, into even deeper chaos, and has sparked an international search for mercenaries and masterminds of the crime in both the Americas.

Haiti police earlier this week issued an arrest warrant for Ms. Ëendelle Coq-Thelot, a former Constitutional Court judge who was fired along with two other judges in February this year when the now-deceased president suspected he was a coup was being prepared.

The location of the suspect is not known and she was unavailable to give any comment, writes Reuters, Gazeta Express reports.

Colombian mercenaries and Haitian-Americans arrested after the president’s assassination have said they met with former Judge Coq-Thelot, according to Inspector General Marie Michelle Verrier.

“Some of them have hinted that they have been to Mrs. Coq-Thelot’s house twice. “These people have given details of the documents signed during the meetings in her house”, said Inspector Verrier.

She also reported that police raided the main house and several other residences of the suspected former judge as well as published notices of her search by police.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani has reacted to the assassination of the President of Haiti Jovenel Moise.

Osmani has expressed grief over the murder of Moise, whom he said he met a month ago.

“I am saddened to hear of the assassination of President Moïse and shocked to hear of the heinous attack. I had the opportunity to meet him in person a month ago. “My thoughts at this time are with his family and the people of #Haiti”, wrote the President of Kosovo on Twitter.

It took only 24 hours for the police in Haiti to catch the first two alleged participants in the assassination of President Jovanel Moiz, who was killed on Wednesday at his residence in Port-au-Prince.

“Police have arrested the alleged killers of President Moise,” Haiti’s Secretary of State for Communications, Franz Exantus, wrote on Twitter.

Judging by the photos published by the government officials in Port-au-Prince immediately after the arrest, the police caught two people, whose identity is still unknown.

The police action was carried out after the Haitian authorities declared a state of emergency in Haiti and closed the airport.

Haitian Prime Minister Claude Joseph blamed the attack on “foreigners”, who communicated with each other in English and Spanish, stating that an armed group came down from the surrounding hills about an hour after midnight and stormed the president’s residence.

The president’s wife was also wounded in the attack, and she was transferred to Miami for treatment in a serious condition.

The attack came after years of protests against Moiz’s government and demands for his resignation, but it is still unknown who the perpetrators of the attack are, although local media claim that the mafia boss, a former police officer who managed to unite several rival groups into a single organization .

Moiz has been president of Haiti since February 2017, and in the last few years he has been the target of sharp protests by the opposition, which has accused him of corruption, intimidation and assassination of political rivals.

Authorities in Haiti have declared a state of emergency in the country following the assassination of President Jovenel Moise.

Gunmen stormed the head of state’s private residence in the early hours of the morning, killing him and seriously injuring the First Lady.

The perpetrators of this serious event have not yet been identified, while the authorities call for calm.

In an earlier press release the prime minister indicated that some of the perpetrators of this horrific attack spoke Spanish, throwing out the idea that the aggressors are a group of paid mercenaries.

Jovenel Moise, 53, took over as president of Haiti in February 2017. Since then he has faced ongoing allegations of corruption and ongoing protests demanding his resignation.
