The grandiose project of restoring 350 square meters of mosaics of the Imperial Palace began in 2013 and so far over one hundred square meters of mosaics have been preserved.

– All the mosaics of the Imperial Palace discovered so far are floor-standing and were often located one below the other, created in various periods. Although it is assumed that the walls of the imperial chambers were decorated with mosaics, their remains were not found because, since they were made of non-permanent glass paste, they were exposed to decay, Shulaja points out and adds that all mosaics are geometric, except the only figural one with a Roman god motif. The imperial palace as the official residence of the Roman emperors was built at the end of the third and the beginning of the fourth century, when Sirmium was one of the capitals of the Roman Empire in the period of the tetrarchy, along with Nicomedia, Milan and Trier.

Six Roman emperors were born in the palace and surroundings of Sirmium: Aurelian, Maximian, Gratian, Decius Trajan, Probus and the son of Constantine the Great Constantius II.

The contract was signed, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, by the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirović, Acting General Director of Serbian Railway Infrastructure Nebojsa Shurlan and, on behalf of the contractor, the consortium “Karin Komerc MD doo Veternik” and “RZD International”, Krsto Dubroja .

The signing of the contract was also attended by the first deputy director of “RZD International”, Mansurbek Sultanov.

After signing the agreement, the Minister said that this is a project of special importance for the Republic of Serbia, as well as that a transparent procedure for the selection of a strategic partner has been conducted in order to implement it.

– When the modernization and reconstruction is completed, it will be one of the most modern electrified European railway sections, with which trains will travel at speeds up to 120 km / h with the most modern accompanying equipment and signal and safety systems – said the minister.

He added that the reconstruction of station buildings in the stations Palić, Bački Vinogradi and Horgoš, the stops Javno Skladište and Hajdukovo, as well as the reconstruction of 13 level level crossings and 2 underpasses are also planned.

The deadline for completion of works is 14 months from the introduction of the contractor.

The United States will make “significant contributions” to rebuilding Gaza and reopening its consulate in Jerusalem following the recent conflict between Israel and Hamas, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on the first day of his first official visit to region.

Speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem, Blinken said the United States would “work to ensure that Hamas does not benefit” from the aid.

Blinken’s meeting with Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials marked the first stop on a trip to the Middle East.

His visit comes on the eve of the worst violence in years between Israel and Hamas. Israeli attacks during the recent conflict killed at least 248 Palestinians, including 66 children, according to Hamas health officials. At least 12 people in Israel, including two children, were killed by Palestinian militant fire from Gaza, according to the Israeli army and emergency services, CNN reports.

Israel and Hamas agreed on a ceasefire on Friday, after 11 days of conflict.

Speaking Tuesday, Blinken said he and Netanyahu had a detailed discussion about Israel’s security needs, including supplying the Iron Dome air defense system with missile interceptors.

Blinken also spoke about the right of Israelis and Palestinians, who he said “equally deserve to live in safety and security, to enjoy equal measures of freedom, opportunity and democracy, to be treated with dignity”, but he did not specifically mention the two-state solution or suggest that comprehensive peace negotiations were imminent.

Blinken also met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, after which he announced that the Biden administration would reopen the US consulate in Jerusalem and provide $ 5.5 million in immediate aid to Gaza and additional new aid to the Palestinian people.

Blinken said the opening of the consulate, which closed during the Trump administration and serves as the top diplomatic post for US-Palestinian relations, is an important way for the US to “engage and provide support to the Palestinian people.”
