Somehow as a rule, elderly people who live alone in their houses want to spend the winter months in a Home for the elderly. In a warm room, with regular meals and company, the winter months go by faster and their loved ones are calmer when they know they are safe and under control.

Nevertheless, the Ministry of Labor issued decisions closing dozens of homes due to non-fulfillment of conditions.

Radoslav Milovanović, president of the Association of Private Homes for the Elderly, says that the number that appears in public (121 homes) is not correct. He also points out that the homes continue to work, despite the closure decisions, and the Ministry, which has only 11 inspectors, does not manage to go to the field again.

“These people did not give up, they provide services with the gates closed and the shutters down. They are cheaper because they avoid the obligations they have when the institution opens, they save a lot and work illegally, they do not register workers, nor markets, they avoid income tax and have no additional costs which we have in legal money flows,” says Milovanović.

He points out that four eyes must be opened and that a license for inspection is requested. Even if they have a license, it may not suit certain users – not everyone has the same number of doctors, nurses, and their experience is not the same, which is important for users with chronic diseases.

He points out that the first sign that something is wrong is when an unpleasant smell is felt upon entering the institution. You should also pay attention to the way the director and the professional team present themselves, check whether the social worker is always there or comes only occasionally.

Milovanović also said “that the workforce in the country is never worse” and that there have never been fewer workers. Mostly they only manage to meet the legal minimum for the number of workers. However, the good news is that there are those who return to the country.

Wages are slowly rising and the sun does not warm other people’s skies like ours, Milovanović concluded.

LDK has reacted by criticizing the Government of Kosovo for rejecting the project for the American gas pipeline.
