Favorable Mediterranean climate with very good weather for most of the year ranks Albania one of the largest citrus producers among European countries.
The Institute of Statistics recently published the report on agricultural statistics, according to which citrus production in 2020 increased by 5%.
“Citrus production in 2020 is 49,201 tons with an increase of 4.95%, compared to a year ago, where 65.36% of total citrus production is occupied by tangerines. The highest level of citrus production is recorded in the region of Vlora with 66.05% (32,497 tons) “, it is said in the INSTAT report.
Citrus production in Albania is mainly represented by tangerine cultivation in the southern region of Saranda and Vlora.
Although a small country, Albania is among the ten largest producers in Europe, in terms of citrus, aromatic and medicinal plants./ATSH
