The municipal director in Prishtina talks about his battle with cancer when he was 16 years old

The director of Culture in the municipality of Prishtina, Adrian Berisha, told about the fight he had with cancer, when he was only 16 years old.

Berisha said in a Facebook post that when he was diagnosed with cancer, his dream of playing football was extinguished.

He says however, he had managed to defeat the disease.

“I know very well how children can feel, who are told that they suffer from one of the most serious diseases known to mankind. I know very well what it is like to be afraid, to lose hope and to see the most loved people around you with prayers and sorrow for you. I was one of hundreds of thousands of children around the world battling cancer each year. Por ia dola. With the help of family members, medical professionals and the great desire to continue my life. Yes, the dream of football is gone. But not the will to live. “And the pain became a motive for me to work, both for Adrian as a child but also for other children like Adrian”, he says.

“Tonight I turn on the lights of the National Library, joining as a Municipality the call for solidarity with children affected by cancer. September is also the month of cancer awareness in children. What I want to say to all the children who are facing this disease is this: You are not alone. And the disease, not necessarily the end. Do not give up! “, He added.

One of the stars of the series “Friends”, James Michael Tyler, has declared that he suffers from prostate cancer. The actor known for his role as ‘Gunther’ has revealed that he is facing this disease since September 2018, but has kept it hidden from the public. Tyler said he is currently undergoing chemotherapy and has therefore not become part of the reunion of the series.

Recall that 17 years after the final episode of “Friends”, the protagonists of one of the most watched series of all time returned to an exclusive “reunion” for HBO Max.

The comeback was not a real episode, but a general retrospective on the series, narrated directly by the actors who were part of it. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Chandler, once again sat on the iconic couch, from where they gave so much laughter to their fans, talking without gloves about the cast selection, the strong friendship inside and outside the show , also revealing many pre-scenes./a2cnn

The first signs of stomach cancer

Stomach tumors are the second most common cause of cancer in the world. Eighty-five percent of them are gastric adenocarcinomas, while 15 percent are gastrointestinal lymphoma (GIST) tumors and leomisarcomas.

As with most diseases, food is the cause of this cancer. The stomach is the widest part of the digestive tract. It is located between the esophagus and the small intestine. Digestion begins in the stomach.

The disease is 1.5 – 2 times more common in men, while it appears most often after the age of 50 years. Among the foods that cause it, the most commonly mentioned are smoked and highly salted food (meat), water in which there is a lot of nitrates and keeping food at room temperature, but, of course, genes are also the cause.

Who gets stomach cancer?

The risk of developing stomach cancer increases with age: mainly people older than 55 years. Men get sick twice as often as women. Prolonged infection with the bacterium H.Pylori, which lives in the gastric mucosa is one of the primary causes of gastric cancer.

The risk of developing cancer is higher in people who have or have had a family member with the disease, along with some rare genetic disorders, which increase the risk of developing stomach cancer.

High-salt foods, which include smoked and salty foods, pre-surgical cure (stomach resection), smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption also increase the risk of stomach cancer.

It is important to recognize the symptoms and cure them in time.

Usually displayed:

– Unspecified difficulties in the upper part of the stomach

– Feeling of weight or fullness after the ration

– Croup and vomiting

– Poor digestion, burning

– Weakness and fatigue

– Bloating

– Diarrhea or constipation

– Stomach pain

– Blood in the stool.

About 25 percent of sufferers have similar difficulties to those with dehydration.

In the later stage of the disease the patients lose body weight, some may affect the mass of the tumor in the upper part of the stomach, which is an extremely bad sign, leading to cramps and vomiting or problems with swallowing. / eo

The Regional Conference for Raising Awareness on the Unmet Needs of Breast Cancer in Kosovo was held today, organized by the non-governmental organization “Renaissance” in cooperation with “GoldMinds”, in order to raise public awareness on the prevalence of breast cancer in Kosovo and proposing modalities for addressing current challenges.

The conference, which brought together relevant local and international actors, was attended by the founder of the Jahjaga Foundation and former president, Atifete Jahjaga, president of the Association of Oncologists, Arben Bislimi, founder and director of the non-governmental organization “Renaissance”, Violeta Pirana, professor and world-renowned oncologist, ESO CEO Alberto Costa as well as representatives of countries in the region.

One of the key topics addressed at the conference is effective and affordable treatment as part of national cancer control plans so that every woman has access to adequate treatment and support regardless of the circumstances, with institutional representatives outlining governance priorities in this direction. Representatives of the region shared the experiences of their countries in the fight for early diagnosis and timely treatment of breast cancer.

Also, during the conference, the main findings of the “GoldMinds” research on the situation of breast cancer in Kosovo were revealed, which were worrying.

“According to this research, it turns out that in Kosovo the most common forms of breast cancer occur in the third and fourth stage, while the average age of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer is 48-54 years old. Furthermore, the leading municipalities in terms of the number of people diagnosed with this disease are Prishtina, Prizren and Peja, while it should be noted that although the Oncology Clinic does not have data on cases that go into metastasis but it is thought that disease recurrence in the form of progress about 30% of patients have metastatic “, it is said in the communiquĂ© of the organization” Renaissance “.

The conference, which is the first of its kind in Kosovo, was seen by the participants as a necessary step in a time much needed to address problems, challenges and provide effective alternatives in terms of awareness and fight against breast cancer. in Kosovo. / Voice

"Fearless" launches online education, 4,600 women face breast cancer every year

Visiting the morning program, Dr. Ivana BoĹľović-Spasojević, medical oncologist and head of the Day Hospital for Chemotherapy at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, says that facing metastatic breast cancer is one of the most difficult moments in a woman’s life.

According to her, it is not easy to face the diagnosis of a malignant disease, and after the initial shock and anger “why is this happening to me”, the patients want to get the right information so that they can go through the entire treatment easier and better.

“Various information is available today. We wanted to provide them with reliable information that is scientifically substantiated, impartial, timely, and I think that we will achieve that with this education,” Bozovic-Spasojevic points out.

With this online education, patients will get answers to important questions such as: what is the type of disease, what is the subtype of cancer, how is the tumor treated, what are the therapeutic options in our country, what are the therapeutic options in the world, how to go through treatment meaning what side effects can be expected.

“In that way, we wanted to enable patients to have an insight into the treatment plan, which will certainly help them go through the entire treatment, which often lasts several months,” says Dr. BoĹľović-Spasojević.

He adds that an important part of that education will be made by the patients themselves who have gone through the treatment process and who will tell other patients about their personal experience from their experience.

The education is designed to be interactive, there will be a portal and a forum, the possibility of communication with a medical oncologist and patients who are now in the role of educators.

The web address of the training will be forwarded at the promotion of this action on March 20.

10 percent of women have metastatic disease

Metastatic breast cancer is the fourth stage, the most advanced stage. At the time of diagnosis of malignancy, 10 percent of these women have metastatic disease.

“This means that we are not talking only about local treatment, because when the tumor is in an early stage, then it is possible to carry out treatment locally, ie surgically, and then radiation therapy is performed, which is the most common and systemic additional treatment. the disease spread and affected distant organs, then we talk about the fact that systemic treatment is primary. In a third of the patients we treated in the early disease, unfortunately, despite the best therapy, the disease will return, “explains medical oncologist Ivana Bozovic-Spasojevic.

He emphasizes that chemotherapy is actually non-specific. It is not determined on the basis of the tumor subtype, it has a unique mechanism of action and acts non-selectively and very often acts on healthy cells. Therefore, there are often side effects in terms of hair loss, nausea, changes in blood count.

“Targeted therapy acts on the mechanism that the tumor cell uses. We cannot say that targeted therapy has no side effects, it has, but they are usually smaller, it is oral therapy and patients can take it at home,” says Bozovic-Spasojevic.

Oncology has changed

He points out that oncology has changed a lot in the last 20 years. From chemotherapy, which was only applied, today we have come for all localizations in the first lines of treatment when the disease is small, there is a lot of targeted therapy.

“It is essential to preserve the quality of life, not to impair general health and to enable targeted therapy to be given for as long as possible. If you have enough of that therapy, you will have the opportunity to treat the patient longer. Therefore, you have the opportunity to translate the disease into chronic.” is the goal of today’s oncology therapy “, says medical oncologist Ivana BoĹľović-Spasojević.

He points out that breast cancer most often occurs in postmenopausal women, after the age of 50, when screening was organized in Serbia. It is very important, if we know some risk factors for the development of breast cancer, to know that physical activity and maintaining a normal body weight are important.

“The next would be preventive examinations and I hope that when Kovid passes, the system of inviting women for preventive examinations and mammography will be more efficient. I think it is very important for oncology in Serbia to decentralize it because a large number of patients and tertiary institutions like the Institute I can’t accept all patients “, says Dr. Ivana BoĹľović-Spasojević, medical oncologist and head of the Day Hospital for Chemotherapy of the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia.

A pill that has a small camera inside that can detect tumors is expected to revolutionize the diagnosis and treatment of colon cancer.

The cancer detection camera – known as the capsule for bowel endoscopy – is swallowed by patients and takes pictures of the bowel to see if there are signs of disease as it passes through the digestive tract.

The device, which can deliver results in just five hours, is expected to initially be used on 11,000 patients in Britain as part of the testing process, writes the Daily Mail.

If the test is successful, it is hoped that the new form of diagnosis can bring an end to colonoscopies and the use of X-rays.

Genevieve Edwards, chief executive of Bowel Cancer UK, said:

“This has the potential to make a huge difference for people with symptoms of colon cancer and can help health authorities prioritize those in urgent need of further testing.”

Colon cancer is the fourth most common type of cancer in the UK with 42,000 new cases being diagnosed each year and responsible for over 16,500 deaths per year.

Diagnosis of dangerous disease can often be delayed because many people refuse to undergo the uncomfortable procedure, which involves inserting a thin tube with a camera into the colon.
