Leaked files expose London’s cloak-and-dagger scheming to secure the permanent divorce of Kosovo from Serbia — RT Op-ed

Documents have revealed Whitehall’s multimillion-dollar involvement in efforts to increase support for the national government of Kosovo among Serbs, proving yet again that Britain cannot resist flexing its neo-colonial muscles.

In September 2020, Pristina and Belgrade agreed to normalize economic relations in what the mainstream media called historic. However, the deal failed to resolve the many serious questions that have loomed over the future of Kosovo since the controversial declaration of independence from Serbia in 2008.

The main point of contention is four northern communities in which ethnic Kosovar Serbs make up the majority of the population. Although nominally part of the emerging state, the quartet remains de facto under Serbian rule. Both a division and a land swap have been discussed intensively at the highest level in recent years, although the Kosovar Prime Minister Albin Kurti is currently not making any territorial concessions to Belgrade.

Pristina is supported in this intransigence by a number of Western countries, including Great Britain, which played a pivotal role in the 1999 NATO bombing that defeated Serbian forces from most of Kosovo. Recently leaked files make it clear that London is trying to quit the job, not with brute force but through manipulation, under the guise of collaborative bridge building.

It is titled “Strengthening Positive Peace in Kosovo and Serbia” and costs £ 5 million between 2020 and 2022. It aims to increase the support of the national government of Kosovo among Serbs, to question “identity-based narratives” and to achieve “social change at the national level” – in other words, to reduce tensions between local peoples and everyone Diminish notion of differences between them.

“Communities in Kosovo and Serbia will be more resilient to divisive or conflict-generating narratives, which will lose their meaning in mainstream discourse, and will play an active civic role to highlight cooperation and development for all parts of their societies,” the project proposal said. Theory of Change ”it says.

Noble ambitions in theory, although coupled with previously leaked Foreign Office files relating to covert activities targeting Russophones in the Baltic states, the interpretation that it is ultimately a matter of forcing ethnic Serbs in Kosovo to leave their motherland to leave and accept them now and forever to be guests in an ‘independent’ foreign land is amply empowered.

As in the Baltic States, Whitehall specifically aimed to “involve” the youth of Kosovo in various activities and programs as “agents of change”, strengthening their ability to become “social entrepreneurs” and “across ethnic boundaries for relevant social issues to advertise and work for it ”. Of particular interest were young citizens who were “unable to emigrate”, presumably because of their unemployment and lack of opportunities to get involved.

“National and regional media channels and social media influencers” are also being recruited to “promote alternative narratives” and “reinforce the models and successes of the project, promote alternative narratives, disseminate locally driven narratives through credible change agents”. [and] Influencer ”and mobilize the participation of young people in local projects.

To underscore the grim nature of the “Peace” initiative, a separate section in a file outlines the tremendous efforts that would be made to disguise UK involvement and publicly misrepresent that it is in the effort was a purely local matter.

All participating organizations and their staff should sign confidentiality agreements and, if requested, be “instructed and instructed” on “how to represent project funding”, although only staff at the highest levels would have any inkling of London’s hidden hand. No internal or external communications should mention or brand Whitehall, and staff operating social media platforms associated with the project would be careful to geotag posts in the “target population area” rather than their actual location.

In addition, social media advertising should be “carefully calibrated to ensure that growth is perceived as organic and not as a result of external funding”, with constant monitoring of “social media, traditional media and local interlocutors” to “understand how the target group (s) perceive project channels [and] identify a link between the project and the UK government or other donors. ”If the cover is exposed, an evacuation plan – including“ measures to remove or destroy data, including hard drives ”- will be initiated immediately.

Quite a ruse, but then Whitehall has every reason to cover up his real role – if the Serbs got wind of it, they’d understandably be suspicious of the real aims of the venture. However, should anyone be able to object to the project or any other covert British action in the Balkans, they could be in big trouble shortly.

A separate leaked file relating to a “rule of law initiative” by the National Security Council’s Stabilization Unit makes it very clear that London will not tolerate high-level opposition to its agenda for the region and will willingly take active action to neutralize any resistance.

“In contexts where elite incentives are inconsistent with our goals / values … an approach that seeks to hold elite politicians accountable may be needed,” the document reads weird but threateningly.

To this end, the unit planned to “build relationships and alliances with those who share our goals and values for reform” by funding and “mentoring” an alliance of indigenous NGOs and civil society organizations to “hold local governments accountable” and “to arrange”. the program with the stated goals. ”

In other words, cultivating an army of Trojan horses to lobby, defame, fight against and, if necessary, bring down disruptive regional governance actors. The constellation of media organizations scattered across the Balkans, funded and trained, if not secretly created, by Britain – some of which were recently revealed by this journalist – could prove effective in this endeavor as well.

It may also be significant that a secret document on the strengthening of the Pristina judiciary surprisingly reveals that Whitehall is playing an intimate role in the training and appointment of Kosovar judges and prosecutors due to his dissatisfaction with previous appointments. Could this power also have an impact on Balkan politicians who are insufficiently conducive to London’s machinations?

One cannot help but be reminded of Brazil’s infamous Operation Lava Jato (car wash), a fake anti-corruption psyop in which a seedy group of US-led rights activists conspired to target anti-imperialist political figures such as popular former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, on completely false accusations.

The act also refers to the 2013 Brussels Agreement, which once integrated parallel Serbian and Kosovar police, security and legal structures in the would-be republic and established the composition of their national and local judicial bodies in proportion to the population. This seems to confirm that London is also influencing their membership and guaranteeing that representatives of both ethnicities are fully subordinate to their goal of achieving the complete and permanent separation of Kosovo from Belgrade.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s grandiose post-Brexit plans for a “global Britain” have been widely viewed as a fantastic, dangerous and ill-fated attempt to restore the empire’s long-lost glory days. However, these leaked files make it clear that the sun has never actually set – it’s just that the dominance of far-flung lands is now being insidiously maintained, through clandestine infiltration of civil society at all levels, unknown, invisible and without the consent of either your own Population of Great Britain as well as citizens of all countries in Whitehall’s neo-colonial crosshairs.

Goodbye, globalism? Coronavirus sobers up Serbia to EU hypocrisy — RT Op-ed

The European Union’s incompetence and hypocrisy in dealing with the Covid-19 outbreak appears to have sobered Serbia, a country that previously slavishly pledged to obey orders from Brussels.

For the past 20 years, every politician who ruled Serbia has subscribed to the dogma that “the EU has no alternative” and that membership in this transnational bloc was in the highest state interest – even if accession was not even far on the horizon and would require, among other things, the abandonment of national identity and territory such as Kosovo.

Then came the novel coronavirus and the EU export ban on medical devices even to obedient vassals like Belgrade, immediately after the Brussels bureaucrats advocated open borders, made Europe the new epicenter of the pandemic. Sure, the doors are slamming now, but for thousands of Italians and Spaniards it is too little, too late.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic declared the state of emergency and the national lockdown on Sunday and criticized the “legendary international and European solidarity” as something that “only existed on paper” and stated that he was referring to the “friend and brother” -President Xi Jinping of China turned for assistance, particularly with medical equipment.

“Only China can help us,” said the Serbian head of state, adding that Beijing had already sent five million masks and offered to send doctors. China became the first country to address the disease, which reportedly emerged in Wuhan city in November 2019.

Technology Development Minister Nenad Popovic soon shared a photo of the first shipment of coronavirus detection tests, praising China’s “steel friendship” with Serbia.

In these difficult moments for Serbia, the first contingent of aid for our country came from the friendly China – tests for the detection of the corona virus. We are grateful to our Chinese friends who have once again shown our steel friendship in action. # Serbia # China # friendshippic.twitter.com / e0t5oxdROw

Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic also sought help with the medical care of his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, who was due to visit Belgrade at the end of April but canceled the trip for obvious reasons. Lavrov is said to have promised that Russia would help Serbia “as always”.

Serbia’s crackdown on the coronavirus is possibly one of the strictest in Europe, enforced by armed and masked military personnel patrolling the streets. Public transport was severely restricted and the entire population was instructed to stay home and only go outside to dispose of rubbish, buy food or medicine, and take pets for walks.

Day care centers, schools and universities are closed until further notice. The parliamentary elections planned for April have been postponed indefinitely. Price controls are in place.

There is no European solidarity, only China can help us: Serbia is in need because of the coronavirus

Everyone, including citizens and diplomats, who returns from abroad must undergo a 14-day quarantine. If you are from Switzerland, Iran, Romania, Spain, Germany, France, Austria, Slovenia or Greece, it will take up to 28 days. Violators can be imprisoned for up to three years. Italy isn’t just on the list because it has been completely banned for over a week.

“I say to foreigners: Do not come to Serbia, except for the Chinese who are supposed to come, their doctors, the people who help us,” said Vucic.

On Sunday when he declared the emergency, Serbia had registered 57 cases of the coronavirus, with no deaths and with a recovery. Unsurprisingly, the president’s liberal critics have called the measures far too drastic.

“The virus is too small to be killed by a bullet,” tweeted former Democratic Party leader Bojan Pajtic. He also noted that masked and armed troops sent to enforce the emergency should not hold their finger on the trigger to offer a photo as evidence.

“I hope it is now clear that we have to join the EU as soon as possible!” tweeted former defense minister and democratic colleague Dragan Sutanovac. “The help from China is great and thank you, but we belong to everyone else from Europe in the EU.”

Remember, this is the man who melted down much of the Serbian arsenal during his tenure to make it easier for his Euro-Atlantic masters to bend the knee. Not even a deadly pandemic demonstrating the EU’s hypocrisy and incompetence on a daily basis could shake his cultic devotion.

For the rest of Serbia, but also for much of the world, the Covid-19 crisis will be a sobering experience. It has not only been shown which friends are fair weather and which are true, but also that globalization is hardly inevitable and at the same time has a massive disadvantage.

Does he want a statue too? Trump to host ‘Serbia-Kosovo’ summit in Washington on ominous anniversary — RT Op-ed

The inclusion of the leaders of Serbia and its breakaway province of Kosovo in the White House on the eve of a major anniversary in Serbian (and world) history raises questions about what President Donald Trump is up to in the Balkans.

Richard Grenell has not been the acting director of the National Secret Service or ambassador in Germany for two weeks, but technically he is still Trump’s special envoy for talks between Serbia and Kosovo. In this capacity he announced the meeting scheduled for June 27th.

Belgrade has agreed to temporarily suspend its campaign for countries that have recognized Kosovo to withdraw that recognition, while Pristina has also stopped seeking membership in international organizations. Discussions will focus on economic growth, Grenell said on Monday.

If both sides are not satisfied with the June 27 discussions, they will return to the status quo after leaving Washington. As we have consistently said, we must first make progress in growing economies. This is the focus. I look forward to these discussions. (2/2) https://t.co/r5QLDuC1XI

– Richard Grenell (@RichardGrenell) June 15, 2020

Kosovo is the province of Serbia, which was occupied by NATO peacekeepers in June 1999 after a 78-day war waged by the alliance on behalf of ethnic Albanian rebels. Instead of protecting Serbian sovereignty over the province, as outlined in UN Security Council 1244, which approved the ceasefire, NATO established a provisional Albanian government that declared independence in February 2008. She was recognized by the US and most of its allies. About half of the world’s governments – but not Russia, China or Serbia.

Getting Belgrade to recognize the land grab as legitimate has since been the endgame of any US administration – be it Bill Clinton, George W. Bush or Barack Obama in the White House. But every Serbian government that has put “midwives” in office since the 2000 Color Revolution, including “progressive” President Aleksandar Vucic, has rejected this last move.

Kosovo: a decade of dependence

Grenell’s initiative has two eyebrow-raising things. What is immediately obvious is the date on the eve of June 28th. This is the anniversary of the battle between Serbian princes and the Ottoman Turks in the Kosovo field of 1389. Serbian oral history recalled the event as a combination of martyrdom and tyrannicide. This motivated a young Bosnian Serb student named Gavrilo Princip to assassinate Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary that day in 1914. Vienna used this as a pretext to invade Serbia and started the chain of events that escalated into World War I.

The other curiosity is that while Vucic welcomed the talks, the Albanians are divided. Hashim Thaci, the militant leader who became the “president” of Kosovo, said earlier this month he was confident about the initiative. Albin Kurti, a hard-line union advocate with Albania who was Prime Minister between January and March, has accused Grenell of “having the same stance” on Serbia instead of being an impartial mediator.

If Trump wants to disarm Russia, he shouldn’t recognize Kosovo

Kurti has reportedly argued that Grenell is trying to “accelerate” a deal between Belgrade and Pristina in order to give Trump a foreign policy victory ahead of the 2020 election. He also accused Trump’s envoy of orchestrating the no-confidence vote that ousted him in March. A man named Avdullah Hoti was re-elected Prime Minister on June 3 over Kurti’s objections and will travel to Washington.

Kosovar Albanians may have cause for concern. The economic focus of Grenell’s proposal sounds very much like Trump’s approach to the Israeli-Palestinian “deal of the century,” which the Palestinians overwhelmingly opposed. The current US president is known for defying the longstanding foreign policy consensus. He is not personally involved in the conflict with either side, and may even be somewhat biased against the Albanians as they obsess over erecting statues for Bill and Hillary Clinton, Madeleine Albright, and other prominent Democrats.

Granted, there is a statue of President Bush in Albania too, and former Senator Bob Dole (R-Kansas) has been an advocate of Kosovar Albanians for decades – and still is. The GOP’s Bush and Dole factions, however, are broadly against Trump.

Idolatry a lot? Kosovo honors Clinton, Albright on the 1999 anniversary of the war

In Belgrade, Vucic was repeatedly accused by his nationalist critics of trying to “sell out” Kosovo at the first chance and his defeatist rhetoric did not help him counter this. Unsurprisingly, western-funded liberals complain he hasn’t done it yet and want him to be replaced with someone who does.

Parliamentary elections have been scheduled for June 21, less than a week before the White House meeting and just days before Vucic is due to take part in the Moscow Victory Parade. Vucic’s party is expected to sweep the polls and give him legitimacy for just about anything – maybe even rewrite the constitution, perhaps to give up Kosovo.

Given that none of Trump’s ambitious foreign policy initiatives have so far borne fruit – from North Korea to Venezuela and anything in between – and that the prospects for his re-election may be fatally undermined by a number of recent domestic events, neither Vucic nor Thaci nor Kurti should expect a lot.
