In a response to lajmi.net, the European Union says it “does not comment on the statements”, but adds that leaders should lead by example a climate that promotes a good neighborhood in the region.

“We do not comment on the statements. “In general, political leaders in the region should lead by example in promoting a climate of mutual trust, fostering good neighborly relations and regional co-operation, principles and values that the EU stands for,” said Peter Stano, spokesman. for external and security issues in the EU.

He says the EU expects all actors in the region to be actors in constructive and cooperative relations, focusing on reforms to move forward on the path to European integration.

“The European Union expects everyone in the region to continue to build constructive and cooperative relations and to focus and intensify work on their respective reform programs to move forward on the path to European integration. This also applies to Kosovo, which has a clear European perspective as part of the Western Balkans region and we expect the new institutions to work in this direction “, says further Stano.

National unity was even the main topic of the campaign of the AAK leader, Ramush Haradinaj, who in some form announced a referendum if for several years Kosovo remains isolated and potentially has no agreement with Serbia.

At the same time, Kurti, the leader of the entity that won the February 14 parliamentary elections, stated in an interview with Euronews that if a referendum were held on the unification of Kosovo with Albania, he would vote in favor.
