At least 3 injured & evacuation ordered after blasts rock Serbia ammunition factory for 2nd time in a MONTH (VIDEOS) — RT World News

The evacuation of parts of the Serbian city of Cacak was announced after an explosion struck and set fire to a local ammunition factory. A similar explosion caused major damage to the facility about two weeks earlier.

“Due to the explosion at the Sloboda facility, there is an urgent need to evacuate all citizens living near the factory. The location of the evacuation is the city stadium, ”said Cacak’s mayor Milun Todorović on social media on Saturday evening, ransacked the factory and reportedly spread to the nearby area.

The “Sloboda” (Freedom) plant, southwest of Cacak, was shaken by a huge explosion around 8 p.m. local time, which, according to Serbian television, was followed by another, smaller one.

Two workers and one female worker were injured in the explosion, reportedly from the broken glass, and were taken to hospital.

Footage shared on social media shows angry flame and thick smoke rising from the site.

The incident on Saturday marks the second time in less than a month that the factory has been hit by a massive explosion. On June 4, a series of explosions struck the plant and the evacuation of the surrounding houses was ordered. While the explosions lasted for several days, no one was injured in the incident. At that time, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic put the damage from the explosion at up to 2 million euros (2.4 million US dollars).

The factory was paralyzed during the NATO bombing of Kosovo in 1999, but has since been rebuilt.
