Official data analyzed by Euronews Albania show that Montenegro and Northern Macedonia are the countries with the highest death rate from COVID-19 in the Western Balkans.
On Saturday, Montenegrin authorities reported 5 more casualties bringing the total to 999 people who have lost their lives since the pandemic began.
The neighboring country, which has a population of about 620,000, has officially diagnosed 75,332 more infected cases with a staggering ratio of 1,605 victims for every 1 million inhabitants – however, the fact that mortality among those infected remains at 1.3%.
Northern Macedonia comes after Montenegro for the death toll. Official Skopje has so far reported 3,126 deaths out of 102,482 cases of COVID-19 – with a high mortality rate of 3.1%.
The death rate from COVID-19 for every 1 million inhabitants in RMV is 1,563.
