Police interventions in several cases in Prishtina, PIK files criminal charges against a police officer

The latest cases of physical and psychological violence against citizens of the country that have been committed by some members of the Kosovo Police (KP), these cases have recently been reported by citizens and through video recordings by the media in the country, are being investigated by the Kosovo Police Inspectorate (KPI).

For the case that happened last week on street B in Prishtina, where members of the Kosovo Police used tear gas against a citizen after she took her dog for a walk without a security mask and asked the police on which law the sentence against PIK has started collecting information.

The collection of information about this case was confirmed for Telegraf by the PIK spokesman, Arbër Beka.

According to him, other actions are expected to be taken in accordance with the legal mission of the PIK.

“Regarding the incident that was reported in the media and that occurred on street B in Pristina, the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo, respectively its investigators ex officio have begun collecting information regarding this case. “Other actions are expected to be taken in accordance with the legal mission of the PIK”, he said.

Whereas, for the other case which happened on March 08 of this year, where members of the Kosovo Police entered a restaurant in Pristina using tear gas and physical violence against some people who were inside the restaurant as there were still people who worked even after the allowed hours due to the anti-COVID measures taken by the Government of Kosovo, Beka told the Telegraph that investigators have taken investigative actions in consultation and cooperation with the Basic Prosecution in Pristina.

As he said in this case, the PIK has filed criminal charges against a police officer regarding suspicions of the criminal offense of “ill-treatment in the exercise of official duty.”

Regarding the incident that was reported in the media and that occurred in the neighborhood Peyton in Prishtina (08.03.2021), the Police Inspectorate of Kosovo, respectively its investigators have undertaken investigative actions in consultation and cooperation with the Basic Prosecution in Prishtina. Regarding this case, PIK has filed a criminal report against a police officer regarding the suspicions of the criminal offense of ill-treatment during the exercise of official duty “, said among others the spokesman, Arbër Beka.
