Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian spoke yesterday with his Serbian counterpart, Nikola Selaković.
The ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine in light of the war unleashed by Russia on February 24. Mr. Le Drian emphasized the importance of closely coordinating our positions and initiatives on this issue in order to pressure Russia to end the conflict. He praised Serbia’s support for several UN votes in this regard.
He also reiterated France’s support for the European prospects of Serbia and the Western Balkan nations. He mentioned the conference this coming June between the EU and the Western Balkan nations, which will take place under the French presidency of the EU Council, noting that those countries can make a useful contribution.
Lastly, he underscored the need to give a new impetus to the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo mediated by the EU – a dialogue which France fully supports – calling on the parties to work constructively.
