Launching of the HELP online module on labour trafficking in Serbia

Trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labor exploitation has been on the rise in Europe and globally. To strengthen the knowledge and capacity of professionals to detect and combat it, the action “Preventing and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in Serbia” launched the new online training module on trafficking in human beings for the purpose of labor exploitation, developed by the Council of Europe’s HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal professionals) programme.

At the kick-off event in Belgrade on 4 May 2022, Serbian labor inspectors, police officers and representatives of trade unions met with the course tutors Ivana Krstic, Professor in Law, University of Belgrade, and Marija Andjelkovic, Director of NGO Astra, and heard about the objectives, the programs and the implementation modalities of the course which will be implemented in the period from May to June 2022.

The content of the module has been adjusted to the Serbian legal and strategic anti-trafficking framework and it also contains European good practices and various exercises to learn how to combat trafficking for the purpose of labor exploitation. Translated European Court of Human Rights case-law dealing with this issue, local guidance documents and examples have also been included in the course.

The action “Preventing and combating trafficking in human beings in Serbia” is implemented under the joint European Union – Council of Europe program ”Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
