A 13-year-old boy has been identified as the man shot dead by Chicago police in the western part of the city in a case that authorities described as an armed clash.
The boy named Adam Toledo died from a gunshot wound to the chest on Monday, the regional office of the medical investigator said on Thursday.
Chicago police said a police officer was responding to a scene where gunshots were spotted when an officer shot a suspect with a gun, writes The Guardian.
“He was full of life. “They just took his life,” said Elizabeth Toledo, the mother of the slain child. “I want to know what happened. “I just want justice for my son, that’s all,” she added.
“The officers saw two subjects in an alley, one of them ran away and the officers started following him. One officer shot him in the chest. “The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene,” said police spokesman Tom Ahern.
A weapon was found at the scene. A police spokesman said investigators are trying to find out if the teenager shot at police officers before being shot to death.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said it was important that footage of the shooting be shown first to the boy’s family and then to the public as soon as possible. / eo
