US President Joe Biden said on Friday that social networks such as Facebook are “killing people”.
He made the remarks after the White House continued to criticize the company, which is allowing the posting of misinformation about coronavirus vaccines.
“They are killing people. “Look, the only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated,” Biden told reporters when asked about the disinformation and his response to social media, such as Facebook.
White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki also criticized the company on Friday.
“Clearly there are steps that have been taken. They are private sector companies. There are additional steps they need to take. “It’s clear there is still work to be done,” she said.
Facebook has not yet commented on these statements.
According to US officials, the new rise in the number of people infected and dying with coronavirus in the United States is affecting unvaccinated people.
“There is a clear message, it is becoming a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” Rochelle Qalensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, told reporters.
Many people are refusing vaccination, despite easy procedures in the United States, saying they do not trust vaccines.
Skepticism is also growing from fake vaccine posts on social media. / rel
