The number of migrants crossing the border between Morocco and Spain to reach Ceuta has reached record levels. Spanish media report that more than 3,000 undocumented people, of whom an estimated 700 are minors, swam to Ceuta this Monday from the neighboring town of Fnideq, with a population of 77,000. One of the migrants has died and about 300 had returned to Morocco before ten o’clock at night, according to police sources.

Morocco decided to strengthen the diplomatic cordon with Madrid. The Moroccan government was silent all day.

The dispute between the two countries came after Moroccan intelligence services revealed last April that the secretary general of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, had been greeted with a false identity at a hospital in Logroño suffering from covid-19. Moroccan diplomacy expressed regret over the act, warned it was taking note and threatened the Spanish government with retaliation./a2cnn
