Protest in front of the Ministry of Education, due to sexual abuse of a minor in Pristina

The Feminist Thought and Action Collective has protested in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation regarding the case in the “Faik Konica” school.

Fjolla Muçaj, organizer said that the last key to happen in the school ‘Faik Konica’, has shown once again the scary reality with which girls grow up in Kosovo.

According to her, the sexual abuse of girls in schools is an urgent issue that we must all deal with.

“The last case that happened in the school ‘Faik Konica’, has shown once again the scary reality with which girls grow up in Kosovo. “And this reality, where the risk of sexual abuse is constant, comes precisely because of the social and institutional failure to treat violence against girls and women as a serious problem and concern for public safety.”

“Institutionalized patriarchy is endangering the right to education and healthy growth of children in schools. This is because our institutions have consistently failed to come up with genuine policies that would seriously address the sexual violence against girls, not recognizing at all the presence of this phenomenon and the need to address it. On the other hand, we are deeply concerned with the media reporting of these cases and consider that part of the problem is the media themselves and their scandalous reporting. “The media are becoming a serious obstacle in combating these phenomena, treating issues of gender-based violence as ‘sensational’ news and the means by which they earn more, violating above all human and journalistic principles.”

“Disclosure of the identity of the victims and children involved in these cases, such as the latter, is intolerable, for which we demand penalties from the relevant authorities. “We know very well that the cases made in the media within the school garrison are not isolated cases, but a phenomenon which is on a frightening scale present in all our private and public environments.”

“Therefore and as such should be treated. Our system and all institutions, from the family to public institutions are producing sexual harassment and abuse. This is being done through patriarchal education, stratifying and feeding inequalities and neglecting acute issues such as sexual violence against girls and women. Sexual abuse of girls in schools is an urgent issue that we all need to address. However, the Ministry of Education should get the most. This phenomenon must be fought on several levels and involves many parties, starting from an awareness of the family, schools, media and society, which should and can be done only by the state.

She also presented their requests, which were: Introduction of sex education in schools; Safe facilities for female students and Employment of social workers and psychologists in all schools.

“Therefore, today we want to turn our attention to the ministry and let them know once again that this institutional neglect must end and that the life and safety of girls in schools is in danger and as such should be addressed through genuine gender rights policies. Therefore, our requirements are clear: 1. Introduction of sex education in schools; 2. Safe environment for students; 3. Employment of social workers and psychologists in all schools. We will not stop until these three requirements are met. “Until girls and women live free from any kind of violence and control, wherever they are.”

While the Kosovo Police reacted after the publication of a video on several portals, according to which it is alleged that there was a case of sexual abuse between students in the yard of a school in the capital.

The notification of the Police states that from the school officials the Police has received a sensitive information, which has been treated in coordination with the school leaders, the officials of the Center for Work and Social Welfare and the State Prosecutor.

After the reports of the sexual assault on a student in the school “Faik Konica” in Prishtina, the president of the country, Vjosa Osmani, reacted.

Through a Facebook post, Osmani said it is time to educate boys and treat their classmates’ sisters as equals.

“It’s the last time we fight the mentality where girls are constantly bullied and raised with the idea that they should be protected, cared for, and deprived. “Now, as never before, it is time to educate our boys to treat their sisters and classmates as equals, and with the respect and love they deserve,” she wrote.

The head of state said that he met with the Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla and the Minister of Education, Arbërie Nagavci, who promised to take the issue seriously./Zëri

Full post:

It is not just an isolated case of sexual harassment! Unfortunately, it is a sad reflection of a dire situation in our society.

Dear parents,

It is high time we fight the mentality where girls are constantly bullied and raised with the idea that they should be protected, cared for, and deprived. Now, as never before, it is time to educate our boys to treat their sisters and classmates as equals, and with the respect and love they deserve.

The case of sexual harassment of a minor girl by some children as well as minors, shows the urgent need to address the issue of safety for students and children in any circumstance and any environment.

Today I talked to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Xhelal Sveçla and the Minister of Education, Mrs. Arbërie Nagavci, who assured me that they are treating the case in question with priority and professionalism.

It is our collective responsibility to work hard to ensure that such cases do not recur. We need to create maximum security for our girls and boys, wherever they are: on the road, or at school. Security for them is an investment in their future.

Their safety, well-being, and right to a peaceful, non-violent, and well-to-do childhood must be guaranteed in all circumstances and at all costs!

The Basic Court in Gjilan has approved the request of the Basic Prosecution of Gjilan, imposing the measure of detention of 30 days on the defendant R. Sh.

According to the Court, there is a grounded suspicion that the defendant from November 2020 until 20.04.2021, met several times with the injured minor, who is a person with mental disabilities, in which case the defendant is suspected of having sexually assaulted her. These sufficient circumstances for which the court considers that show the potential risk that if the same is released he can repeat the criminal offense or commit another criminal offense with even more serious consequences.

With these actions, the defendant is suspected of having committed the criminal offense of “sexual assault”, an offense sanctioned by the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kosovo (CCRK).

The pre-trial judge in the Serious Crimes Department assessed that the legal reasons for imposing detention on the defendant remain, as other alternative measures at this stage of the procedure would be insufficient.

IKD për zgjedhjet: Kishte incidente të vogla, policia dhe prokuroria kanë reaguar në mënyrë adekuate

Kosovo Institute of Justice (KLI) estimates that the voting process in the early parliamentary elections held on February 14, 2021, has met the standard of free, fair and democratic elections.

KLI throughout the day until the closing of the ballot boxes monitored the voting process of citizens throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo, with a team of 51 observers / mobile monitors – volunteers – who focused on monitoring the cases of incidents, in which they assessed the actions and reactions of the Police, the Prosecution and the Courts.

“KLI has identified a number of cases of incidents, which are suspected to have entered the criminal sphere, but in which cases, it estimates that there has been an adequate response of the police and the prosecution, in preventing and prosecuting responsible persons. In addition, KLI reflects the findings and assessments of election day monitoring. KLI observers during election day have identified various violations, the most common of which was non-compliance with anti-COVID measures by citizens in almost all polling stations and polling stations in all municipalities of Kosovo. Moreover, in addition to not keeping their distance and in various cases not even masks, by citizens, KLI observers have identified cases where commissioners and / or observers did not wear masks, as a protective measure against the COVID-19 pandemic. Another repeated violation, which has affected various regions within Kosovo, has been the sending of SMS with messages from certain political parties, calling for voting for them. In this regard, the prosecution has been notified that KLI has opened a case in due process. Through the observation conducted by KLI, three cases of photographing the vote were also identified, in three different regions within the country. KLI observers have also identified cases of lack of ballots in four different polling stations, all in Pristina. Whereas, in two cases, KLI observers have identified displays of political party logos inside the Voting Centers. Of these, one case was identified in Prishtina and another in Suhareka. KLI from sources within the prosecution has understood that there are two cases open in regular procedure, for interference in the computer system. Another case for which the law enforcement agencies intervened was identified in Lipjan, where a person was detained due to the threats of the commissioners. A case was also identified in Prishtina, where a citizen stated that he was not allowed to vote because after arriving at the polling station he found that a signature had already been placed on his name on the list. Regarding this case, KLI was informed by the police that this case has been handled and the person in question has been provided with conditional voting. Whereas, further actions are being taken in coordination with the state prosecutor. KLI observers have also identified at least one case where there was a lack of official CEC signs in the ballot box, then another case where there were doubts about the identification of dead persons on the voter lists, one attempted case. for double voting, as well as a case for vote sale. Whereas, for the cases when the persons were denied the right to vote due to the expiration of the ID card despite the application to be provided with a new one, the KLI observers have reported several times within today. This issue was then concluded with the CEC decision to allow these persons to vote. KLI observers in one case also found that observers were forced to take on the role of commissioner, due to the large number of voters. This case has been identified in the capital “, it is said in the announcement.

KLI observers are already monitoring the ballot counting process in polling stations, where so far, no cases of irregularities have been reported. Further, for any innovation, KLI will keep you informed.
