The Taliban have announced an interim government in Afghanistan that will be led by one of the group’s founders, and whose interior minister will be a militant declared wanted by the FBI.
The new government will be headed by Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund.
“We know our people are looking forward to this new government,” said Zabihullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the group.
The Taliban have taken control of most of the country for more than three weeks.
The announcement of this newly elected cabinet is an important step towards the formation of the new Taliban government, states the well-known BBC news agency.
Other appointments include Mullaj Yaqoob as defense minister.
Also, Sarajuddin Haqqani, the new interior minister is the head of the militant group known as the Haqqani Network.
Unlike most Taliban groups, the Haqqani network has been declared a foreign terrorist organization by the United States. /euronews.al
