Vlora Çitaku reacts to Grenelli, after congratulating Serbs Vidovdan: It was not their battle – Latest News
Vlora Çitaku has reacted to the former US special envoy for the mediation of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Richard Grenell, who congratulated the Serbs on Vidovdan in the Battle of Kosovo, where the peoples of the Balkans fought against the Ottoman Empire.
Çitaku, through a post on her Twitter account, clarified that the Battle of Kosovo did not belong to the Serbs and that the Balkan army against the Ottoman Empire took part in it.
“It was not a battle of the Serbs; “It was the Balkan army that fought against the Ottoman occupiers,” she said.
“This battle became the fundamental myth that continues to nurture Serbian nationalism since the 19th century by holding us all hostage,” she added.
Meanwhile, Grenell wished the Serbs the anniversary of the Battle of Kosovo, saying that “today the martyrs of the ‘Serbian saint’ and St. Prince Lazar are commemorated”.
“Today we change the heroes of Vidovdan. On this day in 1389, the battle against the Ottomans in Kosovo began. “Today is a day of remembrance for St. Prince Lazar and the holy Serbian martyrs,” he said in a Twitter post.
