At least eight people have died after Tropical Storm Grace swept through eastern Mexico, causing flooding and power outages.
A woman and five children have died as a result of landslides in the city of Banderilla, said the governor of Veracruz, Cuitlahuac Garcia Jimenez.
Another woman died in Poza Rika and a child died as a result of the collapse of a house in Xalapa.
Mexican President Manuel Lopez Obrador has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, saying “you are not alone.”
Hurricane Graca hit the Gulf of Mexico initially off the coast and later carried over to land.
“We urge people not to be deceived by the false sense of security,” Garcia said.
“Although the storm has passed, the state of emergency is still here.”
Trees have been uprooted and roads filled with water in dozens of cities in Veracruz.
More than half a million people have been temporarily left without electricity, said the supply company CFE, transmits dpa.
Flights to storm-affected areas have already been canceled. / rel
