Former Vetëvendosje MP in court for shedding tear gas, says he does not feel guilty

Former MP of Vetëvendosje Movement, Driton Çaushi, who is being accused of using a dangerous vehicle and obstructing an official person while performing official duties, has pleaded not guilty in Wednesday’s initial hearing.

He is being accused by the prosecution that on August 10, 2016, during the meeting in the session of the Assembly of Kosovo, he threw tear gas, and obstructed the official persons, respectively the Speaker and the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo, in performing their official duties, thus in this case all officials were forced to interrupt the meeting and leave the hall.

After reading the indictment by the prosecutor Besart Mustafa, the accused Çaushi said that he does not feel guilty for the criminal offenses charged to him, reports “Oath for Justice”.

“I stand behind what I have stated in the prosecution, I accept the commission of acts, but not a guilt of actions. “I can not deny the act but I do not feel guilty for the actions,” he said.

Since the accused did not plead guilty, Judge Lumnije Krasniqi instructed him to file an objection to the evidence and a request to dismiss the indictment within 30 days.

The Basic Prosecution in Prishtina on March 27, 2018 has filed an indictment against Driton Çaushi because he used a weapon in violation of the applicable law on weapons, so on August 10, 2016, during a meeting in the Assembly Hall of the Republic of Kosovo, where he was The accused participant, in his capacity as a deputy of the VV Movement, threw tear gas in this room, which violated Article 9.1 of Regulation No. 04/12 on Weapons Holding in the Republic of Kosovo, which prohibits the use of weapons.

With these actions, the prosecution charges him with the criminal offense of “use of a weapon or dangerous means”, under Article 375 paragraph 1 of the KCCP.

The Prosecution also charges Chaushi with the criminal offense of “obstructing an official person in the performance of official duties”, under Article 409 paragraph 1 of the CCRK.

According to the indictment, the accused Çaushi in the above place and time, during the use of tear gas, obstructed the officials – witness Kadri Veseli, in the capacity of the Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo and witnesses – MPs Adem Grabovci, Ismet Beqiri, Sabri Hamiti, etc., in performing official duties, in which case all officials were forced to interrupt the meeting and leave the hall.
