The People's Advocate reacts to the beating of a 15-year-old in Prishtina, calls on the Police and the MEST to handle these cases

Yesterday in the media it was reported that in a school in Prishtina a 15-year-old was beaten by his peers, even this beating was recorded and the video went viral.

The People’s Advocate reacted to this today, emphasizing that violence against children is intolerable.

“The People’s Advocate Institution expresses its concern regarding the video published in Prishtina where a child is brutally beaten by his peers and the other video in Gjakova where a child is also brutally beaten. Violence against and between children is intolerable!” it is said in the communiqué of this institution.

The People’s Advocate declares that all forms of violence and ill-treatment endanger and damage the physical, mental and moral integrity of the child and constitute a violation of the fundamental rights of the child, defined by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and the Law on Child Protection.

“The Law on Child Protection obliges institutions to develop and implement policies and programs in order to ensure child protection, prevention of risk to life and any kind of violence. Children must be protected from violence regardless of where it is committed, especially in educational institutions. The OIK calls on the relevant schools to address the cases until they are resolved and to ensure that children who are victims of bullying are safe and receiving appropriate psychological support. to receive psychological treatment from schools “, it is further stated in the communiqué of this institution.

The PA calls on the Kosovo Police to deal with cases to act immediately in accordance with the prescribed legal procedures.

The OIK calls on MEST to cooperate with schools and the municipality in order to address this problem as quickly and effectively as possible. The OIK also calls on all institutions, civil society and citizens of the Republic of Kosovo to mobilize and address violence because combating and preventing violence is an all-social responsibility. / Voice
