From March 13 last year in Kosovo appeared the first two positive cases of COVID-19. Since then until today 154 thousand 607 citizens tested positive for COVID-19.
COVID-19 also took the lives of thousands of citizens.
So far, according to the data of the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (NIPHK), 2,709 citizens have died due to coronavirus infection.
Only in recent weeks has been reported the high number of deaths but also positive cases with COVID-19.
The situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic is serious, says the head of the Government of Kosovo, Albin Kurti and the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia.
For this, Prime Minister Kurti visited the NIPHKS on Wednesday.
After the visit to NIPH, Kurti thanked the health professionals for the work they are doing, while emphasizing that the vaccine is the best way against this deadly virus with high risk. He confirmed that currently Kosovo has in stock 580 thousand Pfizer vaccines and 20 thousand Astra Zeneca vaccines.
However, for all this situation, a decision has been taken for some measures in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, measures which have entered into force on Monday, August 30th.
State and health institutions are calling on citizens to be vaccinated against COOVID-19. And after the situation worsened, Minister Vitia said that it is necessary now to take the third dose of antiCOVID-19 vaccine.
According to the latest report of NIPHK, since the beginning of the vaccination process in all cities of Kosovo, 955 thousand 811 doses of vaccine have been given, while 329 thousand 246 have been vaccinated with the second dose of this vaccine.
In total the number of active cases is 22,223.
