Kurti: We can’t and don’t need to take the nation to the elections as a result of we need to elect a brand new President
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti reacted after the Assembly failed in Friday’s session to secure 2/3 of the votes for the review of the draft law on Elections with accelerated procedure.
Kurti, through a writing said that a draft law such as the one on the Election Law is delayed but not hasty.
Kurti says that it has been expected that there are those who do not like this bill, but adds that the hysterical panic about the diaspora vote is surprising.
He says they can not and do not want to lead the country to re-election just because we want to elect a new president. He stressed that they do not want the election of the president do not want the president.
“That there are those who do not like this draft law has been expected, but this hysterical panic about the diaspora vote is surprising. We can not and do not want to lead the country to re-election because we want to elect a new President. Those who do not want the election of the President, those who do not love the President, who have made and are waging a special war against it, can lead the country to elections. With their election, they have the elections in hand: either over 80 votes in the box for Vjosa Osmani, or over 500 thousand votes in the box for the VETËVENDOSJE Movement! ”, Wrote Kurti.
Kurti uninterrupted writing:
A delayed rather than hasty bill
Last night’s draft law is aimed at guaranteeing the right to vote for all citizens of Kosovo. Our diaspora, although full of will and willingness to help our country, has encountered various obstacles in its participation in political life in Kosovo. This Draft Law enables the voting of compatriots in the embassies and consulates of the Republic of Kosovo, ie easier participation in the process starting from the next elections.
Through this Draft Law, the aim is to facilitate the realization of the basic constitutional right to vote and expression of the will of the citizens of the Republic with the right to vote. This right has so far been deliberately obstructed and none of the past powers has considered it important.
This Draft Law is not about electoral reform and is based on the ombudsman’s earlier recommendations. Kosovo has 55 diplomatic missions (28 embassies and 27 consular offices) which also have a post office that should be used to receive votes.
The draft law is not a new law. This is a Law which we as MPs had initiated in the sixth legislature, we had continued to support its adoption in the seventh legislature, and now that the appropriate circumstances have been created for its adoption, we approved it yesterday with a positive opinion. in the Government and forwarded it to the Assembly for approval in the eighth legislature.
Continuously, and finally on February 18, 2021, we announced that this will be one of the first laws that we will vote in the Assembly. Voting in embassies and consulates of the Republic of Kosovo is a belated right. And in the last elections it was a right denied.
If out of about 170 thousand applications to register for voting abroad, with not at all easy bureaucratic procedures and hundreds of euros and dollars of payment for postal service, only 56,375 valid votes are accepted, then here the problem is systemic and institutional. That is why change must be like that.
The draft law on supplementing and amending the Law no.03 / L-073 on General Elections in the Republic of Kosovo is not surprising or unplanned. This draft law has been a priority and has received the support of the citizens of the Republic inside and outside Kosovo. Therefore, the approval of this Draft Law is right and just, good and useful.
If not with accelerated procedure, although we lost a lot of time, then with regular procedure. Everything legally, to improve such an important law.
Parliamentary parties which are in the Assembly of the Republic due to the will of the citizens, have no way to be blackmailed by mechanisms that facilitate the expression of citizens’ choice, the expression of the will of the people, which is the source of state sovereignty.
That there are those who do not like this bill has been expected, but this hysterical panic about the diaspora vote is surprising.
We can not and do not want to lead the country to re-election because we want to elect a new President. Those who do not want the election of the President, those who do not love the President, who have made and are waging a special war against it, can lead the country to elections.
