“Four years ago, the plot was planted by a partner, me and two other friends, and there were about 2,400 seedlings on it. The plantation was fenced with wire mesh, but that did not stop the criminal from breaking into the darkness and committing theft. “Since the bags with peat are quite heavy, I guess he came back a few nights and the question is what he would have taken if the neighbors hadn’t noticed that something strange was happening in the orchards,” Rajko Đenić told RINA.
The theft was immediately reported to the competent authorities, and members of the Novi Varoš police managed to catch the thief in the vicinity of Prijepolje and return part of the stolen seedlings to the owners.

“Each of those uprooted seedlings would give a few kilograms of fruit this summer, but as the main veins were broken, we threw away those seedlings that were returned, because they are completely unusable. In order to put these plants on healthy feet, we had many problems, because the plantation in Akmačići was raised to about 1,000 meters above sea level, and the optimal for growing blueberries is from 600 to 800 meters, but we managed to bring water and thus provide yield, ” said Djenic.
