The first dose of Astra-Zeneca vaccine was received this Thursday by the Minister of Health, Arben Vitia.
Vitia after being vaccinated against COVID-19 called on citizens to get the COVID-19 vaccine. He also stressed that the two types of vaccine, Astra-Zeneca and Pfizer are safe, adding that Kosovo will not accept vaccines of Chinese and Russian products, not because of policy but because of the safety of vaccines.
Vitia has warned of a third wave of the coronavirus if citizens are reluctant to get vaccinated. While he said that the measures taken against COVID-19 will be reviewed.
“Vaccination is now and probably for the future the only way to win the battle with COVID-19[…]Since we have secured from your taxes also from friendly countries these two types of vaccines used respectively in many countries of the world and based on their safety in scientific evidence, I urge you to access the E-Kosovo platform[…] We have and will only receive approved vaccines but we will not receive either Russian or Chinese vaccines, this has nothing to do with politics, this has to do with the safety of vaccines and the safety of the health of our citizens. “This is not the time to stigmatize proven vaccines as they try to make individuals irresponsible by spreading panic.”
Vitia called for the autumn to find as many vaccinated citizens as possible.
“If we refuse to be vaccinated today, we must know that a new wave of COVID-19 is inevitable. This variant, as you are now informed, is also present in our Republic. Therefore, each of us has to ask ourselves a question whether it is easier and more beneficial to get a vaccine that the state has provided or to accept to go back to the stories of overcrowded hospitals up to the level of collapse at great expense “and the loss of our loved ones, we must not allow this,” said Vitia.
The head of Kosovar health announced that his cabinet will also be vaccinated with AstraZeneca.
The Minister of Health, Arben Vitia said that after consultations with experts they will decide on measures against COVID-19.
“Obviously it has been postponed for a while to talk to an expert due to the introduction of the Delta variant and this is a concern of ours.[…]The review will be done during this week, we will talk again with an expert and at the moment when we receive the recommendations of the experts in front of you, honorable media, we will inform all the citizens of the Republic “, he said.
